The Class 4 All-State football team has been announced and the Salem Spartans were well-represented after another outstanding season. Salem filled nine positions on the All-Class 4 team, including six on the first team.
Salem senior Chauncey Logan, Jr. was named first team on both offense and defense. Logan was named as a receiver on offense and senior Cameron Leftwich was also named first team at running back. First team selections on defense included Logan at defensive back, Cameron Martindale at defensive line, Noah Collins at linebacker and Chase Greer at punt return. Second team all-state selections were Caleb Wright at center, Sam Jones at offensive line and Jake Massey at tight end.
On the Region 4D team Leftwich was selected as the Offensive Player of the Year and Salem coach Don Holter was named region Coach of the Year for guiding Salem to a 12-2 record and the Region 4D championship. Joining Leftwich on the first team all-region offense were Wright, Jones, Logan and Massey.
Salem dominated the first team all-region defense with seven selections, including Martindale and Stacy Williams on the interior line, Collins and Carson Williams at linebacker, Nathaniel McClure at defensive end, Logan at defensive back and Greer at punt return. Jeffrey Phillips was named to the second team at kick return, as was Logan at punter.
Leftwich was also Offensive Player of the Year on the All-River Ridge District team while Collins was RRD Defensive Player of the Year. Christiansburg’s Alex Wilkens, a former Glenvar assistant, was named RRD Coach of the Year.
Joining Leftwich on the All-RRD first team offense were Wright, Logan, quarterback DaRon Wilson and kicker Wesley Cross. First team defense, along with Collins, included Martindale, Stacy Williams, Carson Williams, McClure and Logan. Second teamers were Jones and Landon Miles on the offensive line and Greer at punt return.
The Class 2 All-State team, including Glenvar athletes, will be released on January 10.
