The Salem and Glenvar track teams competed in
the Blacksburg Invitational last Saturday and had
some strong performances. The host Bruins took the
team titles for both the boys and girls among 19 boys’
teams and 17 girls’ teams who attended.
The Salem boys were fifth while Glenvar took
10th. For Salem Justice English won the 200 and
took second in the 100. Nazeseer Miller won the
400 and the team of English, Aedon Wiley, Ruimel
Nugent and Khamari Garner won the 4×100 relay.
Other highlights for the Salem boys included a
third in the 300 hurdles and a seventh in the 110s by
Davon Jones. Julian Morton and Nugent took fourth
and eighth in the 400 and Donta Davis was eighth in
the discus. For Glenvar, Joey Loder won the 110 and 300
hurdles and Tre Dawyot was fifth in the long jump.
In the girls’ meet Salem was seventh and Glenvar
was 14th. Salem’s 4×100 relay team of Erin
Armistead, Isabella Bruno-Gaston, Maekayla Scott and Shaniyah Robinson took first.
The 4×400 team ofAngeline Odupelu, Khanadia Cummings, Zi’Leyah
Haynes, and Scott was fifth. Alecia Kasey was fifth
in the shot put and Robinson was sixth in the 200.
“Although the weather was not ideal, our athletes
performed well,” said Salem coach Tom Roth.
For Glenvar, Val Loredo-Costello was fifth in the
1,600. “Saturday was cold and windy and we had a few
kids out because of prom,” said Glenvar coach Neil Swanson.
The Highlanders also hosted an eight team meet
last week. Glenvar was third in the girls’ meet and
fourth in the boys’ meet. Salem ran in a meet in
Christiansburg last week, with the girls finishing
third and the boys’ fourth. Salem had a home meet on Wednesday of this
week and the Spartans will run in a meet at Staunton
River Saturday. Glenvar is at Floyd Friday for the
Buffalo Invitational.
