The Salem High softball team dropped a couple games last week to fall to 2-4 heading into spring break.
Salem played host to Lord Botetourt at the James I. Moyer Complex last Wednesday and the Spartans couldn’t do much to stop the Cavalier offense. Kloe Bacon had three of four LB home runs and senior Hannah Mundy was five-for-five as LB took a 15-5 win. Taylor McCaleb had a two run homer for the Spartans.
On Thursday the Spartans played host to Christiansburg and dropped a 7-3 decision despite a 10 strikeout pitching effort by Reagan Owens. Owens also had two runs batted in and Maggie King had two hits. At the break Owens is hitting .412 and Kendra Bolen is stroking the ball at .375. Liz Warren leads the team with a .583 batting average and eight runs batted in.
“We had a couple of bumps but I’m still confident that things will come together as we go into River Ridge District play hard and heavy after spring break,” said coach Johnny Counts. “ Hopefully the weather will be more cooperative and we can get into the swing of being outdoors more.
Salem will return from the break with a home game against Hidden Valley next Tuesday.
