The Salem High volleyball team took on Liberty Christian Academy in Lynchburg last Thursday and got a measure of revenge for a prior loss to LCA in Salem. The Spartans won in four sets, 25-18, 25-23, 15-25 and 25-23.
“It was a great environment,” said Salem coach Russ Danstrom. “Their fans were very loud and very respectful, but we came away with two good wins(varsity and jayvee).”
Janae Blakeney paced the varsity with 15 kills and 16 digs while Tori Clinevell had 5 kills, 14 digs, a block and two aces. Maddie Bowman had 15 assists, three aces, five kills and five digs and Caroline Hagy had 17 assists, nine digs and two kills.
Grace Hedge led Salem with 4 blocks to go with her two kills and Alex Abbott had a kill, a block and an assist. Telia Harris had nine kills, three blocks and 10 digs.
“We were fairly balanced in our offense and played solid defense,” said Danstrom. “The girls executed our game plan and knew what to expect from LCA.”
The Spartans evened their record at 2-2 with their second straight win. They’ll host Northside tonight and play at Patrick Henry next Tuesday.
