The Salem High wrestlers won eight of 10 dual matches last weekend in an event at E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg that featured Class 4, Region D teams.
Salem beat George Washington of Danville, host Glass, Lynchburg Christians Academy, Pulaski County, Carroll County, Blacksburg, and Bassett. The Spartans lost to Amherst and Jefferson Forest.
Jeremy Muncy was 9-1 for the day while Tae Hale and Davey Patterson both finished 8-2. Alex Royston and Preston Saunders were both 7-3 on a full day on the mats.
“That’s a lot of wrestling and it set us up nicely for regions on the 10th of February,” said Salem coach Lawrence Van Liew. “We have a few more things to work on before regions but I feel like we can turn a few matches around from this weekend and send five or six to the state tournament if we wrestle our best.”
