Salem’s Chris Tucker, a former trainer and faculty member at Salem High School, is the newest member of the the Virginia Athletic Trainers’ Association Hall of Fame. The Class of 2026 was inducted January 3rd during the VATA annual meeting in Hampton, VA.

“Chris’s continued contributions to the field of Athletic Training and to the advancement of practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia for the past three decades set him apart as a true leader,” said VATA past president Michael Kotelnicki. “His fellow athletic trainers lauded his excellence in practice and his contributions to the field of athletic training. Over the course of his remarkable career, Mr. Tucker has demonstrated unparalleled dedication, expertise, and leadership in the field of athletic training, leaving an indelible mark on both the profession and the countless individuals he has served.”

Tucker has been a cornerstone of the athletic training community for over 30 years, during which he has achieved numerous milestones. He has consistently gone above and beyond in developing medical coverage for high schools in southwestern Virginia, mentoring aspiring athletic trainers, and advocating for athlete safety. He has been a mentor to many, fostering the growth of future leaders in athletic training and inspiring others to strive for excellence.

“Tucker’s legacy of excellence and commitment to advancing the profession will undoubtedly inspire generations to come,” said Kotelnicki. “We are proud to have him leading the continued growth of our profession.”
