The Rev. Loren Tate Mitchell, formerly on the staff of Covenant Presbyterian Church in the Southwest Roanoke suburbs, will become the minister of the innovative Wild Goose Community with its meeting place in the Daleville area of Botetourt County.
Mitchell, whose paid contract with the group is for the next year, will take over from Bob and Dusty Fiedler, retired Presbyterian clergy, who started the group in 2017.
Meetings, which are Christian-based but held on Thursday nights with a potluck supper, are especially for persons with little or no commitment to a familiar church. The meal is at 6:30 p.m. followed by informal discussion at 7:15 p.m.
Bob Fiedler, who has been convenor of the group of about 40, said he and his wife will continue to attend the gatherings as participants. – compiled by correspondent Frances Stebbins
