The Andrew Lewis Middle School football team opened the 2017 season with a 35-6 win over William Byrd at Salem Stadium Friday. The game was the first of a doubleheader, with the Salem High varsity team defeating Magna Vista in the second game, 49-7.
Lewis Jeffrey Phillips threw two touchdown passes against Byrd, including bomb to Hunter Bayne. Cam Leftwich, Steven Penn and Nick Owen ran for touchdowns. Tanner Dallas kicked four extra points and Owyn Dawyot kicked one.
Lewis is back in action today as the seventh and eighth grade teams play a doubleheader against William Fleming. The seventh graders will play at 5 pm, followed by the eighth grade team at approximately 6:30 pm. The seventh graders will host Read Mountain on Monday.
