The Roanoke College women’s basketball team hammered Virginia Wesleyan, 74-37, at the Cregger Center in Salem last Saturday to move into fifth place in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference stangings.
The win lifted RC to 15-7 overall and 10-5 in the conference. The Maroons were scheduled to play at 11-3 Emory & Henry on Wednesday in a big game, but results were too late for publication.
Last Saturday in Salem RC started the game on a 10-1 run and never looked back in picking up their 15th victory of the season. The second half would see the Maroons start with a 23 point advantage. That edge grew to 34 after a Scarborough layup and the Maroons would go into the final 10 minutes of play with a 33 point lead.
Ayanna Scarborough posted game highs with 16 points and eight rebounds to go with four assists and a pair of steals. Whitney Hopson added 13 points, three assists, and five steals while Kristina Harrel scored nine points. score nine. Roanoke recorded 19 assists on their 25 made field goals and dominated the glass, 52-38.
The Maroons have just two regular season games remaining after Wednesday’s trip to Emory & Henry. Roanoke is at Hollins next Wednesday, February 19, and home with Eastern Mennonite on Saturday, February 22.
