The Roanoke College women are hoping to make a late season run and qualify for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference basketball tournament. The Maroons won their second conference game of the season last Friday when they defeated Randolph College, 50-40, at the Cregger Center in Salem.

With the win the Maroons are now 8-11 overall and tied for ninth place in the ODAC standings. The top eight in the conference make the tournament and, coming into the week, the Maroons were two games behind eighth place Lynchburg(4-6) with a 2-8 record in the 12 team conference.

The Maroons were scheduled to play 6-4 Hollins at home on Wednesday, but results were too late for publication. On Saturday they go to Harrisonburg to play 0-10 Eastern Mennonite, then finish up with games against 2-8 Averett, 6-4 Shenandoah, Lynchburg and Randolph-Macon. The Lynchburg game, on February 18, could decide if the Maroons make the tournament.

Last Friday at home Paige Breuer and Cecilia Robinson both hit double figure points in the win over Randolph. Roanoke led 12-5 after the first quarter and 28-17 at the half. Randolph cut the lead to eight early in the fourth period but the Maroons were able to regroup and finish off the 50-40 win.

Breuer topped the squad in scoring with 16 points and Robinson hit double digit points for the second time in her career with a dozen while also grabbing eight rebounds. Nadia Snesarev had four steals for the Maroons.
