The Glenvar soccer teams returned from spring break with back-to-back games on Monday and Tuesday of this week. The boys won both nights but the girls split as Class 2A Glenvar took on larger schools in Class 3A Alleghany and Class 4A Carroll County.

The boys won at Alleghany Monday, 4-2. Carson Cain had two goals and Peyton Taliaferro and Nathan Booth had two each, with the latter coming on a penalty kick. Jacob Hager had eight saves in goal.

On Tuesday at home the Highlanders beat visiting Carroll, 5-2. Gavin Curfiss scored twice for Glenvar and Leo Montanez, Booth and Taliaferro had one goal each. Taliaferro, Cain and Brennan Michael all had assists.

Glenvar is now 3-1 on the season. The Highlanders will host Floyd County at 5:30 pm tonight, Thursday.

The girls also won at Alleghany on Monday, 5-4 in overtime. Freshman Jenna Hux scored the winning goal in OT off an assist from Kyleigh Drew.

Drew finished with two goals and two assists for Glenvar. Jessica Lucas had a goal and an assist and Emily Stewart also had a goal. Jayla Fuhrman had an assist on Drew’s second goal.

On Tuesday the Highlanders dropped a 4-1 decision to Carroll at home. Ashley Zaronsky scored the only goal for the Highlanders, assisted by Gabriella Stanley.

The girls were scheduled to play Floyd today, but that game has been postponed due a field trip for Floyd that left them short of players.
