Number three ranked Lynchburg defeated Roanoke College in men’s lacrosse last Saturday afternoon in a big ODAC game at Salem’s Kerr Stadium. The Hornets defeated Roanoke, 17-13, in a nailbiter.
The Maroons took a lead into the fourth quarter before Lynchburg rallied to win the game. Roanoke stayed even with the Hornets for most of the first half, and created an 8-6 lead by scoring four unanswered goals to close the second quarter. The Maroons pushed the lead to four at 11-7 midway through the third period and led 12-11 entering the final period, but Lynchburg pulled away in the fourth to survive the upset attempt.
Julian Kammerman and Patrick Cullen combined for eight Maroon goals, scoring four apiece. Kammerman broke the 100-career goal mark and now has 101 in his storied tenure at Roanoke College. Tyler Schmelzer, Blake Rieger, Noah Bell, and Clayton Bewick all contributed a goal in the effort.
With the loss the Maroons fell to 6-3 overall and 2-2 in the ODAC. They were scheduled to play Shenandoah in a conference game Wednesday in Winchester, then play Virginia Wesleyan University in Virginia Beach this Saturday at 7 pm.
