The Three Rivers District has been strong in golf all season and Monday two teams from the district advanced to the state tournament. Floyd County was first and James River was second, and both will play in the Class 2 state tournament at the Hobbs Hole Golf Course in Tappahannock, Virginia, next Monday.
Floyd won the tournament with a score of 316 while River was close behind at 321. James River had the top two players in the tournament as senior Landon Bolling was medalist with a five under par 67 and fellow River senior Mason Gilliland took second with an even par 72.
Three Glenvar players competed in the tournament as individuals. Sophomore John Deel shot an 82 and finished just two strokes away from qualifying for the state tournament. Glenvar’s Easton Quesenberry shot an 88 and Mason Young had a 95.
“Stoney Creek proved to be a tough test,” said Glenvar coach Shawn Duff. “I am very proud of the efforts of our three regional qualifiers. They fought and tried their best.”
