Two Salem High boys won state championships and set new school records at the Class 4 state track meet at Liberty University last week.
Jeremiah Wilson won the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 7.57. That was not only a new indoor school record but also a national qualifying team.
Isaiah Persinger won the 55 meter dash in 6.48 seconds. That was also a new school record and just .04 seconds off a national qualifier.
Zavione Wood placed fourth in the long jump for Salem with a lead of 20’ 11”. The three Spartans scored enough points for Salem High to finish ninth in the state with 25 points.
Loudoun Valley dominated the men’s meet with 104 points and also won the girls’ state championship with 64. Salem’s girls were 21st among over 50 Class 4 schools in the state with 12 points.
As reported last week Tiffany McLaughlin, a junior from Salem, won the state Class 4 high jump championship and Kalie Memmer of Salem took seventh in the shot put. The meet had not concluded when the paper went to press last
