Last week, I had the privilege of attending a Small Business Roundtable in Roanoke, where I heard directly from local business owners about the challenges they face and the opportunities ahead. Small businesses are a vital part of what makes Virginia’s Sixth District such a great place to live and work, and they are truly the backbone of our Commonwealth’s economy.

Supporting small businesses has remained a top priority of mine throughout the 119th Congress. I supported the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, which made critical small-business provisions permanent, including the 20% Section 199A deduction and 100% bonus depreciation. These provisions give small-business owners greater certainty and allow them to keep more of what they earn and reinvest in their businesses, equipment, technology, and employees.
I also introduced the Small Business Regulatory Flexibility Improvements Act, a commonsense proposal that would strengthen how federal agencies weigh the impact of regulations on small businesses. By reducing unnecessary regulatory burdens, we can give entrepreneurs more freedom to focus on growing their businesses and creating good-paying jobs.

Small businesses are engines of opportunity, innovation, and economic growth. Republicans will continue to fight to ensure entrepreneurs across the Sixth District have the support they need to grow, create jobs, and keep our communities strong.
Toured a Local Manufacturing Small Business
Last week, I had the pleasure of touring Butler Parachute Systems with SBA Deputy Administrator Bill Briggs, a small manufacturing business in Roanoke, Virginia. From recreational pilots to military commands, Butler Parachute Systems’ cutting-edge facilities provide safe and comfortable emergency parachutes.
Small businesses are the heartbeat of our Nation. Virginia’s economy relies on Main Street, and our defenses rely on innovative technology like Butler Parachute Systems.
I have worked closely with the Administration to support small businesses and advance policies that deliver real certainty for Main Street businesses. When entrepreneurs have the confidence and flexibility to invest and grow, our entire economy and country benefit.
Fought to Protect First Amendment Rights and Expose Fraud
Last week, I joined my colleagues on the Republican Study Committee in a letter commending investigative journalist Nick Shirley, whose reporting helped bring to light alleged fraud in Minnesota and California, including taxpayer-funded daycare centers he found sitting empty. His work should be celebrated, not silenced. In our letter, we urged the Justice Department to review a new California law intended to silence people like Nick Shirley and asked the DOJ to investigate this new law as a possible violation of the First Amendment.
Rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse remains one of my top priorities and I will continue working with my colleagues to promote responsible oversight, protect taxpayer dollars, and uphold the rule of law.
