As I’m sure you noticed, the games in the paper for last week’s football contest were pretty easy picks. That’s because they were the same games from week prior.
Due to an oversight in “the process,” the games were not changed from the prior week, so it was easy to pick the winner of the Salem-Blacksburg game. That was brought to our attention early Thursday morning and our staff did their best to make sure we had a football contest last week. The correct games were put on our website and distributed on social media. Also, for those of you who came to the office Friday, Betsy at the front desk printed up a bunch of correct forms for people to fill out.
As it turns out, we had a decent number of contestants and we’ll declare a winner. However, we’ll also extend the contest an extra week in December so everyone will get a fair chance to win the $50 gift certificate from Mac & Bob’s.
And one more thing. Last week was supposed to be a “playoff” between Randal Sowers and Danny Webb, who tied for first place the previous week. Danny did not enter last week’s contest, so that playoff will now be held this week.
The one who does the best between Randal and Danny will be declared winner of the contest that appeared in the September 24 edition.
With that out of the way, last week’s winner is Kevin Floyd of Roanoke, who missed three games and was closest to the high point total of 52 by Roanoke College. He’ll get the $50 gift certificate from Mac & Bob’s.
The winner of the free day of golf is Pam “The Little General” Cassell who was closest to our 19th Hole question. I asked you to pick the score of the Salem-Patrick Henry game and the actual score was 41-22 in favor of the Pats. Pam guessed 35-31, which was 15 points off, and that was the closest as the majority of our readers picked the Spartans to win.
For this week’s 19th Hole give me your prediction of the game between Hampden-Sydney and Roanoke College at Salem Stadium Saturday afternoon. The closest to the actual score will get a free day of golf at the Salem Municipal course on Academy Street.
