The Salem High volleyball team is 7-10 after a loss against visiting Hidden Valley on Tuesday night at Salem High. Salem is now 2-7 in River Ridge District matches.
The Spartans honored nine girls prior to the match Tuesday for Senior Night, then got off to a slow start with a 25-16 loss in the first set. Salem rallied to win the second set, 25-20, but the Titans regrouped and won the next two, 25-18 and 25-21.
Last Thursday at home the Spartans struggled against a 15-2 Blacksburg team. The Bruins won in three sets to sweep the season series from the Spartans, 25-17, 25-18 and 25-12.
Kourtney Goens had seven kills to lead Salem and MarKiya Webb had four kills and two blocks.
The Spartans have their work cut out for them again tonight as they take on Christiansburg on the road. The Blue Demons are 15-3 and come into the week undefeated in River Ridge District matches.
“We have the toughest district in the whole state,” said Salem coach Basil Conner. “We can play with these teams but unforced errors are killing us. When you’re tied and you miss five straight serves it’s tough to win.”
Next Tuesday Salem is at Patrick Henry and a week from tonight they go to Pulaski.
