The new track at William Byrd High School will be the site of the Class 4, Region D track meet this Saturday. The meet is scheduled to begin at 9 am in Vinton and the top four from each events will advance to the Class 4 state meet.
Salem warmed up for the meet with a run in the Knights’ Track Classic at Cave Spring Saturday, a meet that had been postponed earlier this season. Blacksburg won both the boys’ and girls’ team titles while the Salem girls tied for 13th and the boys were tied for 10th.
Medal winners for the girls included the 4×800 relay team of Emma Chamberland, Carolina Bowen, Madison Baxley and Samantha Richardson, who played third. Tiffany McLaughlin was fifth in the 400, Selma Marunica was fifth in the discus, Raniyah Majied was sixth in the 400 and Kalei Memmer was sixth in both the shot and discus.
For the boys, Jeremiah Wilson won the 110 hurdles and took third in the long jump. Carlos Alleyne was sixth in the 110 hurdles and the 4×800 relay team of Zack Hoyer, Zach Davidson, Nathan Helems and Owen Halverson also took a sixth.
