Mary Carter Bishop, author of Don’t You Ever: My Mother and Her Secret Son, will be at the Glenvar Library on Monday, August 27, at 7 p.m. for an author talk.

Bishop presents a memoir about uncovering her family’s secret and the three years she and Ronnie spent getting reacquainted before he died. A prize-winning journalist, she deftly balances the dual tasks of objective reporting and the emotional impact of uncovering a family secret. Her story is riveting, and the layers of revelations create a richly textured portrait of her family members and their lives in rural Virginia – a world of sharp divisions between the wealthy landowners and the people who serve them.

A graduate of the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism, Mary Carter Bishop was on the Philadelphia Inquirer team that won a Pulitzer Prize for its coverage of nuclear leaks at Three Mile Island. Her series on poisonings and fraud by exterminators and other pesticide users for the Roanoke Times & World News won a George Polk Award and was a Pulitzer Prize finalist. She lives in Roanoke, Virginia.

This special author talk event is not to be missed. Not only with Bishop discuss her book, but she will also have slide presentations with photos not found in the book and audio files of her brother. Join Mary Carter Bishop at the Glenvar Library on Monday, August 27, at 7 p.m. The Glenvar Library is located at 3917 Daugherty Road in Salem, Virginia. For more information call the Glenvar library at (540) 387-6163.
