The Class 4 All-State lacrosse teams were announced last week and the Salem girls’ were well-represented.

Salem’s Alla Daniel was named the Class 4 state Player of the Year and three other girls made the first team.
A senior, Alla made the team as a midfielder, as did junior Libby Bowman. Junior Madi Caldwell is a first team selection at attack and senior Mae Kennedy was named to the first team on defense.
The four players are the most Salem has ever had on the first team in girls’ lacrosse as the Spartans completed a 17-1 season. Daniel was a steady force in the midfield, using her speed and hustle to ignite the high-powered Salem attack.
“Alla fully deserves this award,” said Salem coach Maggi Pace. “On the state conference call, the Riverside coach mentioned to all the other coaches that Alla never takes a rep off. It’s absolutely true and rarely, if at all, did Alla have a sub.”
Alla was also a basketball standout for Salem through her junior year, but she opted to concentrate on lacrosse this season and the result speaks for itself.
“She started this sport freshman year, but you’d never know that she hadn’t played since 8U,” said Pace. “She commits herself completely and works her hardest in every drill, every practice, every game. She had roughly 100 draw controls in each of the last two seasons, which has greatly translated to our ability to score and have success.”
Alla will play in college at the University of Lynchburg.
