The City of Salem has been monitoring the potential spread of COVID-19, and like you, we have been processing a great deal of information. The safety of citizens, school children and visitors is always the number one priority from the Salem Civic Center to City Hall. Emergency Management team members are in constant contact with the Virginia Department of Health, the Roanoke-Alleghany Health Department and area health professionals at our local hospitals. During this time of uncertainty, people are encouraged to monitor the website (salemva.gov) for official city details on closings or cancellations. This site will be updated daily whenever there is new information.

The annual Salem Holiday Market Craft and Vendor Show will have unique crafters, artists, and direct sell companies. Don’t buy that run of the mill gift from the mall. Arrive to buy that gift that the recipient will love because it is unique, and you personally shop for them. Homemade crafts and local delicacies always make great gifts and shoppers searching for these perennial favorites can find wares from more than 70 regional sellers. Admission to the holiday market is free, but shoppers are encouraged to contribute to the food drive held at the event. The Salem/Roanoke County Food Bank is looking for nonperishable food items, such as peanut butter, boxed pasta, canned vegetables, and spaghetti sauce. Bonnie Ferguson started the Salem Holiday Market with her husband, Tim, and their friends Jeannie Davis and Robert Chelak. Together, their goal is to organize a good show for vendors that helps sell local goods and keeps customers happy. They are still taking applications for vendors. Vendor spots are $175.00 for a 10 by 10. Please email salemholidaymarket@gmail.com for an application and include in your email what you sell.
