Furman University bound Carly Wilkes, a much decorated 2022 Glenvar High graduate, won the 5,000 meters at the New Balance Nationals outdoor track and field championships in Philadelphia on June 16.
The meet was held at historic Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. Franklin Field is the site of the annual Penn Relays and was the home of the Philadelphia Eagles NFL team through the late ‘60s.
Carly won the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:48.1, winning by more than nine seconds over the second place finisher, Jolena Quarzo of Brownsville, PA.
