The Roanoke College women’s soccer team opened Old Dominion Athletic Conference play with a 4-0 shutout of Eastern Mennonite University as part of Family Weekend last Saturday. Prior to the start of the match all four Maroon seniors, Carrington Lippi, Logan Tyler, Mia Clary, and Eliza Ryan, were all honored for their contributions over the past four seasons.
Morgan O’Neill scored the game-winner just 7:18 into the game off a ball played on the right side past the Royals’ goalkeeper to put the Maroons ahead, 1-0. Just over four minutes later MC Petrucelli scored from the middle to put an insurance goal on the board in the first half and the Maroons led 2-0 at the break.
Petrucelli was not done on the day and scored two goals in a span of 11 seconds for Roanoke. She first scored unassisted at 69:18 and followed up with a goal off a pass from Brooke Nicholson at 69:29.
The Maroons were scheduled to host defending national champion Christopher Newport on Wednesday. Shenandoah is here for a 2:30 pm game Saturday at Kerr Stadium in Salem.
