The Roanoke College women were the seventh seed in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference soccer tournament when it opened Tuesday at the sites of the top four seeds. The Maroons saw their second come to an end at the hands of second seeded Washington & Lee, 2-0.
Other first round games had eighth seeded Shenandoah at top-seeded Bridgewater, third seeded Virginia Wesleyan at sixth seeded Guilford and fourth seeded Lynchburg hosting fifth seeded Randolph-Macon. Semifinals are Saturday and the tournament championship is Sunday at the site of the top remaining seed.
Roanoke opened the tournament with a 9-9 overall record and a 5-5 conference record after losing their regular season finale to Virginia Wesleyan in Virginia Beach last Saturday. The Marlins scored a pair of goals in the first half with the game-winner coming at 15:33 and the second goal at 26:34. VWU added two more early in the second half and held on for the 4-0 win.
Carrington Lippi played the first 60:31 for the Maroons, making three saves. Taylor Gallik played the final 29:29 for Roanoke making two saves of her own.
The Maroons played their final home game against Hollins last Wednesday, October 26, and took an 11-0 win. The 11 goals are the most for the Maroons in a single game since a 12-0 win over Sweet Briar in 2018. The Maroon defense did not allow a single Hollins shot.
RC ended the season 9-10.
