Maroon baseball honors

Three Roanoke College student-athletes have been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Baseball Team. Corey Coogan, Nate Prince and Jon Rossi each earned a spot on the all-district team. Coogan is a junior business administration major from Ashburn, Va. Rossi, a senior business administration major, is from Charlotte, N.C., and Prince, a sophomore health and exercise science major, is from Roanoke and a graduate of Lord Botetourt High School.

In addition, three Roanoke College baseball players were recognized with the release of two all-region teams. Senior shortstop Jonny Wall earned first-team honors and freshman third baseman Hayden Giordano brought home third-team accolades on the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings Region 6 Team. The D3baseball.com All-Region 6 Team had Wall on the second-team and junior pitcher Jackson Murphy on the third-team. Wall, a senior shortstop, was third on the squad with a .335 batting average and tied for the team lead with seven home runs.

He had a .427 on base percentage and a .532 slugging percentage and was the only Maroon to start all 46 games. Wall also had teamhighs of 47 RBI, 43 runs and 100 total bases. Giordano enjoyed a stellar rookie campaign with a .343 batting average, 41 runs, 42 RBI and 15 doubles in 43 starts. He added 10 stolen bases and had a .429 on base percentage and a .550 slugging percentage. Murphy was 5-3 overall this season with a 4.86 ERA in his 13 starts. He struck out 50 batters and walked just 22 in his 74 innings. Murphy excelled in ODAC play, with a 4-1 mark and a 3.38 ERA in seven starts
