The Glenvar Highlanders are off to a great start in softball. Glenvar is now 3-0 after pulling out a 7-6 win over Class 3 Northside on the GHS field last Friday.
Glenvar fell behind 4-0 in the early going but rallied in the third. Amelia Gierke and Abby Teubert both walked and Hannah Street reached on an error to load the bases. Zella Hayes then singled in two runs and Haley Leginus followed with a double to knock in Street and Hayes and tie the game.
Northside scored one run in the top of the sixth to regain the lead at 5-4 but Glenvar got their bats going again and with two outs in the bottom of the inning when Hayden Hartz and Gierke both singled. Teubert then singled, scoring Hartz, and Street knocked in Gierke with a single. Teubert scored on a passed ball and Glenvar was up 7-5 after six.
In the top of the seventh Northside put one run on the board and had the tying run at third with one out but Teubert struck out the next batter and a line-drive to second base ended the game with Glenvar winning 7-6. Tuebert fanned nine Vikings to pick up the win and she also had three hits, as did Hayes.
The Highlanders are off this week, returning next Tuesday to host Salem in an April Fool’s Day game.
