
The Salem and Glenvar Middle School sports teams went head-to-head in four sports last Thursday with Lewis winning in baseball, softball and boys’ soccer and Glenvar taking the girls’ soccer game.
The baseball game was played on Billy Sample Field at Kiwanis Park in Salem and the Spartans batted around in the second inning on their way to a 15-2 win. Crayton Boger was dominant on the mound, fanning 10 and no-hitting the Highlanders over four innings to pick up the win.
Lewis scored 12 runs in the second inning to break the game open. Boger led the Wolverines with two hits in two at bats. Boger, Lucas Burch and Pearce Oliver each drove in three runs for Lewis while Kam Smith, Clark Soltis, Cannon Cowling and POliver each stole multiple bases as Lewis had nine stolen bases in the game. Lewis improved to 3-3 with the wn.
The softball game was played at Glenvar and Lewis pulled out a 10-7 win. Daisy Robinson picked up the win on the mound as the girls’ also improved to 3-3.
“It was a close game all the way to the end,” said Lewis coach Randall Sell. “Extremely proud of our effort and progress.”
Glenvar actually outhit Lewis, six to five. McKenna Tice led Glenvar with three hits and Kherington Jewell, Sophie Armes and Emma McClanahan had one hit each. Elena Eskridge and Jewell split time in the circle for Glenvar as the Highlanders fell to 3-3.
The boys’ soccer game was played at Lewis and the host Wolverines took a 2-0 win. Gavin Hancock scored with an assist from Kemi Joli and Carter Webb had a goal assisted by Miles Biscotti.
The girls played at Glenvar and the Highlanders won 4-0. Gabby Barba had a three-goal hat trick for the Highlanders and Maudie Doolan had the other goal. Lilia Schwab was in the Glenvar cage for the shutout.
Glenvar teams return from break next Monday against Northside with the softball and girls’ soccer teams at home and the baseball and boys’ soc-cer teams at Northside. Lewis returns Wednesday, April 2nd, with the baseball and boys’ soccer host-ing Ben Franklin Middle School and the softball and soccer girls’ heading to Franklin County.
