Lewis boys, Glenvar girls win middle school track meet

Jahamere Nance of Andrew Lewis is up and over the bar in winning the high jump in last week’s meet in Salem.

Andrew Lewis, Glenvar and Read Mountain com-peted in a middle school track meet at Salem High last week with the Lewis boys and Glenvar girls coming out on top. The Lewis girls and Glenvar boys were both second in team points.

The Lewis boys were led by top scorer Ji’Zaiah Haynes, who won the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Dustin Peters won both hurdle races while Landon Nunley won the 1600 and 800 meter runs. Jahamere Nance was the winner in the high jump and the 400 meter relay team of Haynes, Nance, Eli Yates, and Zyere Richardson also took first place.

The Lewis girls were led by top scorer McKenzie Eversole, who won the 1600 and 800 meter runs. Olivia Huff was the winner in the 400 meter dash while Anna Doyle remained undefeated in the Shot Put. The 1600 meter relay team of Eversole, Huff, Amelia O’Brien and Jo’Hanna Nugent were also victorious.

For Glenvar Ava Poindexter won four events, taking first in the 100 hurdles, the 100 dash, the long jump and triple jump. Reese Bodigan won the 200, Neveah Janice won the high jump and Mylea Williams won the discus. Glenvar’s 4×100 relay team also came in first.

For the boys, Money Shaw cashed in with wins in the long and triple jumps. Zachary Smith took the shot put and Grayson Harris was first in the 400 meter dash.

Both teams are off for spring break this week. Glenvar is back in action next Tuesday, April 1st, at Floyd and Lewis is back on the oval on April 2nd at William Byrd.
