The Virginia High School League has been announcing All-State basketball teams in the past week and two local athletes have been recognized. Glenvar’s Brody Dawyot was named to the Class 2 all-state boys’ second team and Salem High’s Gabby Crawley was a second team selection for the Class 4 girls’ team.
Dawyot, a junior, averaged close to a double-double for the Highlanders this season with 23 points per game and nine rebounds per game. He scored in double figures in every game and had 13 double-doubles. Brody was the Three Rivers District Player of the Year and first team All-Region 2C.
John Marshall’s Latrell Allmond was selected Class 2 Boys Player of the Year and John Marshall’s Ty White named Class 2 Boys Coach of the Year. A three-time all-state first-teamer, the 6’9″ Allmond averaged 21.9 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks per game, leading the Justices to a fourth straight state title.

Hampton senior forward Kaliya Perry is the Class 4 Player of the Year, and Heritage (Leesburg) head coach Tayler Cook is the Class 4 Coach of the Year. Heritage defeated the Spartans in the Class 4 final in Richmond on March 14.
Perry has been a first-team all-state selection for the past three seasons. The 6’1″ power forward aver-aged 27.2 ppg, 9.1 rebounds, five steals, and two assists this season while leading the Crabbers to a 21-5 record, a Region 4A title, and a spot in the state semifinals.
Eight players make up the first and second all-state teams regardless of position. Only those players selected to all-region first-teams are eligible for selection to the All-State team. Each All-State selec-tion committee comprises eight basketball coaches with two from each Region.
