William Fleming will be the site of the 58th annual Cosmopolitan Club Track meet this week. Middle School and high school Junior and Senior Divisions will be competing in the longest continuous running meet in the Roanoke Valley and both Salem and Glenvar will have teams competing on all levels.
Middle School events will begin on Thursday. High School events will be held Friday and Saturday and running finals for all three divisions are scheduled for Saturday.
Both the Salem and Glenvar teams were in action last Saturday at the Knights’ Track Classic at Cave Spring. Justice English took second in the boys’ 100 and 200 for Salem while Addyson Funk was second in the girls’ 800. Salemites took thirds with Aedon Wiley in the 200, DaVon Jones in the 300 hurdles and Isaac Snow in the 800. Grant Horner, Austin Prosser, Thomas Scharp and John Stovall took second in the 4×800 relay.
Glenvar’s Tyson Hobbs won the long and high jumps at Cave Spring and Joey Loder won the 300 hurdles and tied for first in the 110s. The boys’ 4×100 relay was second with Ranger Swanson, Hobbs, Tre Dawyot and Colby Thompson. Thompson also took second n the 400 and Aiden Beverly was second in the girls’ 200.
Both schools also had in-season district meets last week, and Glenvar hosted the Three Rivers schools. Hobbs broke the school record in the Long Jump with a leap of 22’7″ in that meet and other firsts for the GHS boys were won by the 4×100 relay, Thompson in the 400 and triple jump and Tyler Davis in the 3,200. For the girls, Kailee McDonald won the 400, Elle Graffeo won the pole vault and Sophia Hammersley won both the 100 and 300 hurdles and also won the high jump to complete a big day.
Salem ran the same day against River Ridge District teams at Cave Spring. Winners included Jones in the 300 hurdles for the boys, Erin Armistead in the 100 for the girls and Maekayla Scott in the girls’ 300 hurdles. Also, the Salem 4×400 relay team of Funk, Addison Hancock, Harper Rocovich and Audrey Harmon took first.
