The third-seeded Roanoke College women opened the Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament with a 20-3 win over sixth seeded Bridgewater at Kerr Stadium in Salem Tuesday. The Maroons advance to Friday’s semifinal round with a 4 pm game against second seeded Shenandoah.
Washington & Lee University is the top seed in the tournament after the Generals extended their run of unbeaten ODAC regular season schedules to 11 straight campaigns. The nationally ninth-ranked Generals posted a 10-0 league slate in the just completed regular season.
Randolph-Macon College, Roanoke College and Shenandoah University each finished at 8-2 and tied for the second seed. The Maroons missed out on a chance to clinch the second seed when they dropped a 12-9 decision to Shenandoah in Winchester in the final game of the regular season last week. That gave the Hornets the edge in the tie-breaking process while the Maroons took the third seed and Randolph- Macon went in as the fourth seed.
The Maroons finished the regular season with a 12-6 overall record. If the Maroons can get revenge on Shenandoah Friday they would advance to the championship game on Sunday at 1 pm at the highest remaining seed, most likely Washington & Lee in Lexington.
