The Glenvar High baseball team saw their five game win streak come to an end when the Highlanders lost a home game to Patrick County Tuesday, 9-1. After opening the season 0-6 the Highlanders had won five in a row and were hoping to get back to .500 against the Cougars.
“We didn’t play Glenvar baseball,” said coach Jeremy Cromer. “Too many mistakes and we left nine runners on base.”
Patrick scored four runs in the first inning and never surrendered the lead. Glenvar cut it to 4-1 when Jack Osburn drove in a run in the third but Patrick chased Highlander starting pitcher Cam Feazell with five runs in the fifth to put it away. Feazell gave up just four earned runs as Glenvar committed four errors. Gray Hutchison relieved and pitched two and a third strong innings, giving up just two hits.
“He stopped the bleeding,” said Cromer.
Glenvar was coming off a big win Monday that saw them beat a strong Class 3 Hidden Valley team, 7-3. Glenvar scored all seven runs in the first two innings and held on as freshman Jake Franklin got his first varsity start on the mound and picked up the win. The Titans threatened to get back in the game before Rhett Henderson relieved and picked up the save, pitching three shutout innings of two-hit ball.
Jordyn Pickard had two hits for Glenvar while Franklin drove in two runs to spark the offense. Feazell also had a big RBI.
The Highlanders will try to get back to the winning ways today with a big game at Carroll County. The Cavaliers are in first place in the Three Rivers District and Glenvar can make a statement with a win.
