The Glenvar girls were looking to make it a bakers’ dozen in a row Wednesday when they hosted James River in soccer. The girls took a 12 game winning streak into the game at Highlander Stadium.
It’s been quite a run for the Glenvar girls, who started the season 1-2. Since then they’ve run the table, including nine wins without a loss against Three Rivers District opponents. Wednesday’s game against James River was too late for press deadlines as the Highlanders looked to finish off their district regular season undefeated.
Last Friday at home the girls had no trouble downing Alleghany. Glenvar won 9-0 as eight different girls scored, with Davin Tate being the only one to hit the twine twice.
Wednesday’s game with River was “Senior Night” and that will be special for this group.
“We are super sad to be losing this senior class as they have accomplished so much, including two states titles, but we know their futures are so bright,” said coach Kyleigh Drew.
The Region 2C tournament is scheduled to begin next week with matchups determined after the conclusion of this week’s regular season games.
