Myles Barber springs froe for what proved to be the game winning touchdown.

The Roanoke College football team will play their first night game of the season Saturday when the Maroons host Guilford at Salem Stadium. Kickoff time is 6 pm for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference tilt.

The Maroons come into the game at 2-3 in the ODAC and 4-3 overall while the Quakers are 1-4 in conference games and 2-5 overall. Guilford lost to Randolph-Macon last week, 47-0, and the week prior they fell to Shenandoah, 45-7. Guilford’s ODAC win was a 55-0 victory over Gallaudet.

The Maroons dropped a 35-10 decision to Hampden-Sydney at Everett Stadium in Farmville last Saturday. Roanoke held a lead just before half time, but the Tigers pulled away in the second half for the win. With the victory Hampden-Sydney received votes in this week’s D3football.com top 25 poll and improved to 6-1 on the season and 4-1 in league play.

Roanoke’s defense came up with a big stand on the first drive of the game, stopping H-SC from fourth and two from the RC five-yard line. After a scoreless first quarter, Ethan Cyr connected on a 35-yard field goal at 8:55 of the second period to give Roanoke a 3-0 edge.

The Tigers scored a touchdown just before the half to take a 7-3 lead into intermission. ODAC Offensive Player of the Week Sido Carter tossed two TD passes in the third period to give the Tigers a 21-3 cushion. RC’s touchdown came on a fourth and six deep in Tiger territory when Kam Hill scrambled for 16 yards into the end zone to cut the lead to 21-10 early in the fourth quarter, but that’s as close as the Maroons would come.

Charlie Davis made 21 tackles for RC, including 11 solos and one tackle for loss. Landon Altizer had 13 tackles and Lane Shoemaker had 11.

Hill was 15-28 passing for 164 yards. KJ Bratton had two carries for 69 yards, including a 65-yard gain, and Polo Hill carried 12 times for 54 yards.

Salem’s Hudson Scharnus hands off to Darryl Stone as the line opens a big hole in last Saturday’s Super Bowl 10U semifinal.
