The Glenvar girls are knocking on the door and ready to kick it in. The Highlanders were a bucket away from ending their 42 game basketball losing streak when they dropped a 47-46 decision to Eastern Montgomery in Elliston last Thursday.
Glenvar led in this game by six points with a minute and a half remaining but couldn’t seal the deal. It was the 43rd straight loss for the program, dating back to the 2023 post-season.
“East Mont was a scrappy team with a couple of good shooters,” said GHS coach Cheryl Rhodes, who took over a struggling program last year. “Our girls played well overall but had too many crucial turnovers that ultimately cost us the game. With our young team never having been in a win or lose situation like that, we will definitely learn and grow from that experience.”
Audrey Moles led Glenvar with 14 points while getting five steals and dishing out four assists. Ryan Jones had 10 points and three blocks, Grace Fiedler had nine points and six rebounds, Halie Watkins had seven points and 10 boards and Chloe Meyer had nine rebounds.
The Highlanders have already had two games postponed this season, including home games with Craig County and Giles. The Highlanders were scheduled to host Hidden Valley on Wednesday and next week they have two very winnable games, at Craig County Monday and home to East Mont Tuesday.
