Roanoke College junior Ashley Fowler put up a career high 24 points as the Roanoke College women’s basketball team defeated Eastern Mennonite for their first ODAC win of the season Saturday. The Maroons beat the Royals, 70-54, at the Cregger Center in Salem.
Roanoke came out firing in the third quarter, putting up 12 unanswered points at the outset. The Maroons ended the quarter with a 23-8 scoring advantage to make the score 52-34 going into the final 10 minutes. The bench kept the momentum going in the fourth to finish out the game and earn RC their first ODAC win of the season.
Fowler went nine-for-13 from the field and six-for-nine from three point range to record a new career high of 24 points. It is the first time since November 2023 that a Maroon has recorded 24 or more points in a single game. Ashley has now surpassed her overall point total from last season in just 13 games this year. Paige Breuer also had double figures with 10 points and Alicea Faramer had a dozen rebounds.
With the win the Maroons improved to 7-6 overall. They were scheduled to play Averett in Danville Wednesday and this Saturday they’re in Virginia Beach to play the second game of a doubleheader with the RC and Virginia Wesleyan men. Tip-off time for the women is 4:30 pm.
