
The Salem and Glenvar track teams sent athletes to the last regular season indoor meet at Roanoke College last Saturday, and Glenvar’s Joey Loder also competed in a big meet in Virginia Beach.
Running in the 63rd East Coast Invitational, Loder took second in the boys 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.35. Joey was also seventh in the 500 meter run in 1:07.27.
Glenvar took 13 athletes to Roanoke College for the East Coast Elite Top 600 Invitational. Evan Harris took first place in the boys 1000 meters with a PR of 2:42.86. The girls 4×200 and 4×400 teams both took thirds. The 4×200 team consisted of Meena Chen, Kaillee McDonald, Elle Graffeo and Aiden Beverly and the 4×400 team was Anna Hall, McDonald, Rayya Bryson and Beverly.
“Despite the weather’s negative effect on practices, we had several season best performances,” said Glenvar coach Bekka Loder.
For Salem the boys 4×800 relay team of Grant Horner, Thomas Scharp, Austin Prosser and John Stovall took first place with a season’s best time. DaVon Jones took a third in the 55 hurdles.
For the girls, Salem’s 4×800 team of McKenzie Eversole, Olivia Huff, Addison Hancock and Audrey Harmon took second with a season’s best run. Harmon also took sixth in the 500 meter dash.
Salem’s next meet will be the Region 4D meet on February 16th at Rockingham. Glenvar will run in the Region 2C meet at Roanoke College on February 22nd.
