
The Salem High swim team competed in the Region 4D meet at Liberty University in Lynchburg last weekend and qualified a bunch of swimmers for the state meet. As a team the Spartan boys were fourth and the girls were seventh out of 11 teams competing as River Ridge District rival Blacksburg won both the boys’ and girls’ region championships.
For the boys, Salem’s Mike Bateman won the 50 freestyle, took third in the 100 Free and swam on two state qualifying relay teams. The 200 Free relay of Bateman, Zach Bocock, Starke Griffith and Carter Biscotte was third and the 200 Medley team of Biscotte, Riley Handy, Jack Lawrence and Bateman placed fourth.
Biscotte also placed second with a state cut in the 100 Free and swam a state cut in the 50 Free. Lawrence was second in the 100 Fly and Bocock was fourth in the 50 Free.
Two Salem girls made the state meet. Aubrey Snead was third in the 50 Free and Riley Miller was fifth in the 200 IM.
The state meet will be held in Richmond on February 20th.
