The Salem High boys’ lacrosse team opened defense of their 2025 state championship much the way they ended the season last year; with excitement!! Salem hosted Western Albemarle and took an 8-7 win in overtime.
“First game of the year, shaking some rust off but got a gritty win against a tough Western Albemarle team,” said Salem coach George Revercomb.
This one was close all the way. Salem scored with 41 seconds remaining in the first half to take a 4-3 lead into intermission, but the Warriors led 7-6 with under a minute remaining in regulation. Salem’s Parker Dallas found the net with 18 seconds on the clock, assisted by Logan Sparks, to send the game into overtime. Then Dallas assisted Wade Marble on the game winner in OT.
Holden Custer and Tucker Preas had two goals each for the Spartans while Dallas, Sparks, Marbel and freshman Josiah King had one each. Dallas had four assists, Sparks had two and Richard Hof came up big with nine saves in the cage.
Salem is off this week for spring break, returning next Tuesday with a home game against North Cross.
