The Glenvar girls’ soccer team is still undefeated after six games, including three wins in the past eight days.

Glenvar won at Franklin County last Wednesday, 2-1. Sawyer Wilson drew first blood on a penalty kick and Genna Shanks finished a beautiful header off a cross from Annie George to secure the win.

“Always a tough but good battle when playing Franklin County,” said Glenvar coach Kyleigh Drew. “I was extremely proud of the way our girls fought all the way to the end and everyone stepped up.”

On Thursday they hosted James River and shut out the visiting Knights, 5-0. Gabby Barba had a three-goal hat trick and Adalee Harvey and Ryan Jones had one goal each. Wilson had three assists and Annie George had two.

On Monday of this week the girls were at Radford for their second straight shutout, this time 4-0.

“Being our rivalry game we knew we were headed into a battle when taking on the Bobcats in their home stadium,” said Drew. “Our girls played hard and battled all 80 minutes to walk away with the W.”

Barba had two goals in this game, both in the second half. Lilia Schwab and Ryleigh Dickerson had first half goals, with Schwab assisting Dickerson on hers.

The girls are back in action tonight on the Patrick County pitch, then host Giles on Friday.
