Salem’s Alan Burr plays the net in last week’s match with LCA at Salem High.

The Salem High tennis teams are in action today with River Ridge District matches against Patrick Henry. The boys are home and the girls are at PH.

Last week the boys hosted Liberty Christian and dropped a 7-2 decision. Dev Patel won 6-3, 7-5 at third singles and Thomas Powell won 6-4, 6-0 at number five in just his third varsity match.

The girls split two matches, defeating LCA 5-4 but falling to Hidden Valley, 6-3. Salem was missing their number two player for a school event but pulled out the win at LCA. Kiele Dudley and Gracie Michael won their doubles match after being down five sets to two and that was key to the win.

Salem lost to a strong Hidden Valley team, 6-3. Elisa Nyugen won at first singles for Salem and the Spartans won first and second doubles.

“We still have lots to work on, but they continue to improve each week,” said coach Jill Perez.
