Spartan lacrosse team will play unbeaten Hanover after downing Glass

Salem’s Parker Dallas(#55) scores one of his six goals in last week’s win over E.C. Glass, and on his birthday no less.

Former Spartan Mahan is Hawks’ coach

The Salem High boys’ lacrosse team has a big game Saturday when the Spartans take on Hanover High in Richmond. Game time is 2 pm for what promises to be an exciting showdown.

Hanover is coached by former Salem High player James Mahan. Two years ago at Spartan Field the Hawks came to Salem and upset the Spartans in the state quarterfinal round. Salem won the state championship a year later, but that loss in the spring of 2024 still sits in the craw of the Spartans who were seniors that year.

This year, Mahan has a strong team again. The Hawks from Mechanicsville are undefeated as they take on a Salem team that has lost just once.

Last Wednesday, the defending Class 4 state champs hosted one of their top competitors and laid it on E.C. Glass, 13-5. Salem went on top early, leading 8-1 at the half, and never let up. Parker Dallas had six goals and two assists on his birthday, Holden Custer had three goals and Tucker Preas had two and an assist.

“Huge win,” said Salem coach George Revercomb. “We finally put everything together and played our best game to date against an extremely talented Glass team that came in undefeated and averaging 20 goals a game. The defense did an outstanding job of holding them to five goals.”

Goalie Richard Hof had 13 saves, including several at point blank range. Ronnie Frith had six ground balls and four takeaways.

Salem improved to 5-1 Monday with a 15-6 win at Blacksburg. Logan Sparks led the team with four goals, Wade Marble had three and Dallas had two goals and five assists.

The Spartans are scheduled to host a scrappy William Byrd team tonight at Spartan Field at 7:15 pm. Next Monday Hidden Valley is here for a 7:15 pm start after the girls’ game.
