Lewis and Glenvar go head-to-head

The middle school sports season is winding down and Andrew Lewis and Glenvar teams have had busy weeks. The two local schools played each other in baseball, softball and soccer last Thursday.

In baseball Lewis downed Glenvar 12-4 at Billy Sample Field. On Monday the Wolverines improved to 12-4 with a 7-3 win Central Academy while Glenvar dropped an 8-1 game to Read Mountain.

In softball the Wolverines downed Glenvar, 9-3, last Thursday with a strong pitching performance from Kaylee Crosswhite and solid work behind the plate from Addi Suttles. Crosswhite helped her self with three hits and scored three runs.

Lewis lost to Central Academy Monday, 11-1, while Glenvar bounced back to beat Read Mountain, 11-6. The Highlanders scored eight runs in the third inning and Corra Hayes smashed three triples in the game.

In boys’ soccer the two teams fought to a 1-1 tie at Lewis. Glenvar scored on a free kick by James Schruth early in the game to take the lead. A header by Austyn Rothbart in the second half earned the tie for the Wolverines.

On Monday Lewis beat CAMS 8-1. Scoring for Lewis were Camden Burns, Dylan Blake, Matias Duque, Austyn Rothbart, Jackson Garst, Henry Ariza Bishop, Josh Rodrieguez and Omar Pastillo.

Glenvar’s boys fell to Read Mountain, 3-0.

In girls’ soccer Lewis took a 3-0 win over the Highlanders on goals by Brianna Winters, Naziah Belcher and Jansamal Hancock Parmer. Lewis also beat Central Academy Monday, 3-0, while Glenvar lost a close one to Read Mountain, 3-2. Glenvar had goals by Ava Hall and Kami Dawyot and Ryleigh Conner had four saves.

Today Lewis will play Ben Franklin with the girls at home and the boys in Rocky Mount. Glenvar has Read Mountain again, this time with the boys’ at home and the girls in Botetourt.
