Salem’s Logan Sparks is ready to crank one in last week’s lacrosse win over William Byrd in Salem.

The Salem High boys’ lacrosse team avenged a state quarterfinal loss from the 2024 season with a win over Hanover last Saturday in Richmond. Salem took an 11-4 win over a Hawks team coached by former Salem High Spartan James Mahan.

“Hanover was a top three ranked team in our state divi sion and they came in with one loss,” said Salem coach George Revercomb. “Our defense played lights out and goalie Richard Hof had a great day.”

Wade Marble had four goals to lead the Spartans. Tucker Preas and Carson Garland had two each and Parker Dallas had a goal and three assists. Salem was up 8-0 in the third quarter.

“The offense had a few too many turnovers, but we played well,” said Revercomb. “We just would have liked to close the game a bit better. Awesome job by the kids to get up early, take the bus to Richmond and get a win against a great team.”

Salem played William Byrd last Thursday at home and won 14-3. Josiah King and Logan Sparks had four goals each, Dallas had three goals and six assists and Preas had two and two.

“Byrd is an improving team and they ran a zone defense,” said Revercomb. “I thought our kids stayed patient and executed well. We talked about taking smart shots and they did that.”

On Monday the Spartans played host to Hidden Valley and ran their record to 8-1 with a 22-2 win. Fourteen dif ferent Spartans scored led by Dallas with five goals and three each by King and Ethan Russell, a senior who scored his first three goals of the season. It was Senior Night and everyone got in the game.

“Fun senior night honoring these guys who have meant so much to the program,” said Revercomb. “When I took over five years ago, they were the youngest kids in the pro gram as eighth graders, so it’s been so awesome to see them grow up. We’ll miss these guys. Helped bring our first state championship and the last two region championships, and we have a lot of goals left to work towards accomplishing this season.”

The Spartans are at Rockbridge tonight and will host Loveland High at 2 pm at Spartan Field Saturday. It should be a good as Loveland is coming from Ohio and has a 9-2 record.
