The Salem Museum will host the oral storytelling group Let Me Tell Ya! for a program titled “Folk Tales Unpacked: Beyond Happily Ever After” on Thursday, May 14, at 7 p.m.

The free event will take place at the Salem Museum and will feature three storytellers presenting traditional folk and fairy tales paired with historical context, personal reflections and discussions about how the stories have evolved over time.

According to organizers, the program will explore how well-known childhood tales have been softened, reframed or romanticized through the years. The evening will include live storytelling performances and commentary on the origins and meanings behind familiar stories.

Let Me Tell Ya! is a community storytelling organization focused on preserving and sharing oral traditions. The group hosts monthly online guild meetings where storytellers present new material and receive feedback. It also offers a monthly family-friendly open mic event called “Story Swap,” featuring themed stories lasting five to seven minutes.

More information about the group is available at StorytellingConnections.com.

The Salem Museum, located in the historic Williams-Brown House at 801 E. Main St., is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission and parking are free, though donations are accepted.

For more information about the event or the museum, call 540-389-6760 or visit SalemMuseum.org.
