Glenvar’s Parker Doolan controls the ball in Monday’s win.

The Glenvar boys soccer team remained undefeated at 11-0-1 with another shutout win Monday night. This time it was 7-0 over James River at Highlander Stadium as Glenvar improved to 8-0 in Three Rivers District games.

The three-time defending champion Highlanders haven’t missed a beat after graduating a talented group of players last spring. They’ve allowed just three goals all season and have now outscored the opposition 66-3 in a dozen games, with a 1-1 tie against Magna Vista to open the season being the only “blemish” on the record.

On Monday at Highlander Stadium River keeper Knox Taylor did his best to keep the visiting Knights in the game but he could only do so much. The ball was in the Glenvar attacking end for most of the night as the Highlanders had 44 shots on goal to just one for James River.

Parker Doolan started the scoring 12 minutes into the match as he took a Ryder Francisco pass and got in behind the defense to covert the first goal. Six minutes later Levi King scored off a Doolan assist to give Glenvar a 2-0 lead at the half.

The Highlanders added five more goals 15 minutes into the second half to cap off the scoring. Doolan finished with a goal and three assists, King finished with two goals and Francisco, Zach Williams, Tyler Curfiss and Heath Russell also found the net. Francisco picked up two assists and Jackson Jones added an assist.

The goalkeeping of Tyler Shannon and Drew Butler along with the backline helped the Highlanders collect their ninth shutout of the season, and it was followed by a 2-0 shutout of Auburn in Glenvar last Friday. Doolan scored both goals in that game with assists from King and Adam Saunders. Glenvar outshot the Eagles 27-1 as Class 1 power Auburn fell from the ranks of the unbeaten. The Eagles were 12-0-2 prior to Friday’s game.

“It’s always good to get a victory over an undefeated team this late in the season,” said Glenvar coach Josh Jones. “Auburn is well coached and plays hard, it was a good victory for us. We just need to clean up a few things and keep making progress as the season progresses.”

Glenvar was scheduled to play Carroll last week but that game was postponed until May 15. The Highlanders are at Patrick County next Monday and at Cave Spring on Wednesday, May 13.
