Salem City Council congratulated members of Salem High School’s Debate and Basketball Teams and coaches at the May 26 Council meeting.
SHS Girls Basketball had two outstanding seasons, Council’s resolution noted. The team finished this year with a 27-2 overall record, and those wins tie the school record for wins in a season, which was set the previous year.
Team members won 54 games and lost only five in the past two years, Council’s resolution noted. Coach Scott Jester was named Coach of the Year.
Individual Debate State Champs recognized by Council were Dylan Hancock, Luke Stovall and Kody Hinnant. Salem High School won two of the four events.
Hancock captured his second consecutive individual state title in Student Congress. Stovall and Hinnant won in Policy Debate, with a 4-1 record.
Members and coaches of both teams received individual copies of Council’s resolutions congratulating them, as well as a SHS champion pin.
