Temporary parking restrictions remain in effect on Old Catawba Road through Thursday

Temporary no-parking restrictions remain in effect on Old Catawba Road (Route 864) through the end of the day Thursday as traffic is diverted around the Bradshaw Road (Route 622) bridge replacement project near Masons Cove Elementary School.

The restrictions, which began June 22, are intended to keep traffic moving safely along Old Catawba Road, which has been serving as a detour route for most vehicles during the bridge closure. Large trucks are excluded from the detour.

Roanoke County officials said temporary no-parking signs and traffic barrels have been installed along the route to help manage the increased traffic volume.

Motorists are asked to obey all posted signs and avoid parking along Old Catawba Road while the restrictions remain in place. Vehicles parked in designated no-parking areas may be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.

During the closure, the McAfee Knob Trailhead Shuttle offered free rides June 26-28 to help reduce congestion. Hikers were encouraged to park at the McAfee Knob Trailhead parking lot, reserve a shuttle ride and use alternate parking locations. Shuttle pickups were available only from the Interstate 81 Exit 140 Park & Ride lot.

Bradshaw Road is expected to reopen by the end of the day Thursday, July 2. The temporary no-parking restrictions on Old Catawba Road will be removed once the road reopens.
