A familiar face is returning to Christiansburg High School as its new head wrestling coach. Tim Miles takes over a program, which has been in transition for the past few years after winning 17 straight Class 3 championships.
Miles spent three years in the corner at Glenvar, winning the Region C title every year and finished third in the state this past season. He is a Christiansburg native and has served as the coaching coordinator for the
Virginia Elite Club wrestling program for the past 20 years and served as an assistant a CHS under Kevin Dresser and Daryl Webber.
Miles was a 2-time state champion under Dresser and Weber in high school and also a USA Wrestling National All American, a 2-times Super 32 place winner and Powerade place winner.
“The chance to lead your alma mater is always enticing. Especially a program rich with tradition like Christiansburg. The timing was finally right and I’m excited for this new challenge,” Miles said. “My previous roles with the program have allowed me to build relationships around town and in the school system. It’s not going to be just a team effort but also a school, and community effort to really get this team back to where it was. Lots of great people here in the community, I’m looking forward to the challenge and building more relationships.”
He takes over a Christiansburg program, which has struggled over the past five years, not winning a regional title during that time, something that had become common.
“The team goal is for Christiansburg to start winning state titles again, and get back to national relevance. The goal for each of my wrestlers is to get to the next level and get help continuing their education after high school,” he said.
Miles also serves as the southwest director for Virginia Wrestling and has been on the national team coaching staff for Virginia.
