Will Abdi was recently named the Roanoke College interim men’s golf coach for the 2025-26 season.

After having served as an assistant coach last season, Abdi was already poised to take over the women’s golf head spot this year for the first-year varsity program. After former head coach Richie Waggoner resigned earlier this summer, Abdi will now also serve as the men’s interim head coach.

“We are pleased to promote Will to interim head men’s golf coach,” said Roanoke Director of Athletics Curtis Campbell. “As a four-year player and an assistant on last year’s team, he will bring continuity to both programs.”

Abdi graduated in the spring of 2024 with a degree in sports marketing and returned to help lead the program that he was an integral part of during his four years at RC. The Halifax (Va.) native was a four-year letterman and three-time captain. He posted several top-five finishes for the Maroons. In 2021, Abdi finished third at the Virginia State Golf Association (VSGA) Intercollegiate just two strokes out of the medalist position. At the Stevenson Fall Invitational, he paced the Maroons at three-over par to once again claim a top three spot.

“I would like to thank Richie Waggoner for preparing me for this role and trusting in me enough to make me his successor,” said Abdi. “I would also like to thank Curtis Campbell and Roanoke College for giving me this opportunity to lead this program that has given me so much these past five years. Most of all I would like to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for this unbelievable blessing. I promise to do my best by these men and women and to make Roanoke College proud. Go Maroons!”

Off the course, Abdi succeeded in the classroom and made a huge impact as a leader within the program. He was responsible for assisting in the recruitment of student-athletes, assisted with practices, travel, and had a large role in the mentoring of younger players.

Abdi volunteered at the First Tee of the Roanoke Valley. In the summer of 2023, he was an intern at First Tee of Greater Richmond and returned one summer later to serve as the lead intern with the organization.
